After my lovely wife and I stepped down as founding B and B of the Loch,
we were made Court Baron/ess. My wife asked me what were the duties and
responsibilities of Court B and B's. We looked up the position in Kingdom law
and read what it said and my wife asked me " But what do we DO?" Well it
seems that we get to use our titles forever or until we die, whatever comes
first. Again she asked, " But what do we DO?" Well aside from holding a
court if there isn't a landed B or B around, ( which has never happened) and
getting to wear our hats in court and look popmpous and official, I guess it
is nothing more than an honorarium and priviledge..
Since the death of many of our members over the last two years, my wife
had a brilliant idea. Why couldn't the Court B and B's hold bake sales,
raffells, and other fund raising activities to maintain a flower fund for the
deaths of individuals in the kingdom. This fund would be maintained as a
private account and not be deposited in the kingdom coffers. I checked with
the kingdom Seneschal, and found ,allbeit some questions I couldn't answer,
that this could be possible to do. I interviewed several dozen Court B and
B's and got mixed feelings. Some were strongly in favor, some were out right
opposed, but the bulk were mainly indifferent.
With the age of our society growing older, we are going to be experiencing
the passing of more and more of our friends in the next years. My question is
this- Is this idea way out of bounds? Is it impractical? Would it even be
supported by the Crown and kingdom officers?? WHAT DO YOU THINK
The last idea is that as Court Band B's, their is a wonderful resource to
tap for the betterment of the kingdom. How can this resource be better
utilized? Should there be a oath of fealty for the Court B and B's?
Shouldn't there be more for the Court B and B's to DO?
