Greetings Tim,

I appreciate the thought you've shown in your response.

Not to quibble, (just playing Devil's Advocate, my favorite pastime, btw)
and I'm tired so please forgive me if this isn't fully thought through, but
don't we currently have different types of memberships that deliver slightly
different sets of privileges? Some come with publications, some do not allow
holding offices in-and-of themselves, etc. As the caveat in your own Crown
Tourney scenario demonstrates, a minor tweak to the "rules" could likely
accommodate a "Temporary Membership" class. 

While not the best analogy, consider a credit card that comes in Preferred,
Gold or Platinum varieties. They offer different levels of perks (often with
differing fees), but all deliver the same basic service. Or perhaps a sports
fan analogy: Season ticket holders (w/reserved seating, parking or other
perks) vs. a single event ticket with festival seating. The participants
both pay the organization and enjoy the game, but receive different
privileges or value.

Tweaking the rules may be more trouble than whatever benefit we might
potentially realize, but it seems worth considering. I'm confident it
*could* be done _if_ we desired to do so.
