Any newcomer wearing a white baldric would certainly get a lot of
people to talk to: people challenging them to pick-up fights, asking
them to marshal, reminding them to attend the circle that afternoon,
asking which king elevated them, ...

A white baldric is the insignia for Masters and Mistresses of Arms,
who are members of the Chivalry and peers of the realm.
