Story Time

A long time ago in a kingdom far away...

My schoolmate wanted to bring more people into the SCA. 

He wisely did not take us to a meeting (recent discussions pale in comparison to the sorts of conversations that were held in the shire where I began).

He did not take us to an event (though later we all climbed into his station wagon and drove to many events)

He took us to a demo - in our hastily made t-tunic inspired dresses. 

We saw fighters (some time you should ask for the story of Crinan[sp] of the great green eyes and the borrowed cloak
We slept on the floor in the great hall of a castle
We heard the local high school madrigal choir perform more than a few times
We sat at the feet of artisans and story tellers with the mundanes and learned neat stuff

WE WERE HOOKED

There is always a way to draw people into what we do if we just look for it
and I still bless His Grace Edmund of Hertford for including me in the group he took to the demo at Stronghold in 1986 when we were just college students.
