So far, I have managed to find photos of a few examples dated to 16th 
Century England, including a couple pieces in the collection of the 
Museum of London.

This one is of particular interest to me as it is in whiteware with 
the so-called "Tudor Green" glaze. I am going to try throwing 
something very similar to that one next time I use the pottery wheel:

The reason behind this is I'm working on a project with a few of the 
pottery guild members here in Calafia to produce a collection of 
service ware and cooking ware in a variety of period forms. Our 
intention is to use them as well as make them, we want to produce a 
fully functional period camp kitchen eventually. We plan to document 
this effort with photos, a bibliography, etc. I have some photos of 
one of the cook pots I threw recently (it's still in the greenware 
stage) and will be documenting the efforts of the other members too. 
We have not yet decided but we may make this a Pentathlon project.

When I get some of the initial parts of the project online, I will 
post a link to the project page here on this list.
