There are several different styles of helms available for use.  A
comprehensive heraldry book (e.g. Fox-Davies) will illustrate at least a
dozen.  A good armorer (hmm?) can help you as well.  Using a helm from a
particular time period is one form of personalization.  Adding a pattern of
air holes to the face plate is another way to personalize.
