Hmm.  If I understand what you are wanting, the basic variables are
a) how big is your Truck bed, b) how much "stuff" is supposed to
go into the truck bed, c) what period your persona is (not AS important,
but can be good for details like legs).

Since you want the trunks to be useful as benches as well as cargo boxes,
I would suggest that you not make them any more than 2 feet high (including
any legs you might want on them (later period)).

Assuming that your truck bed is :

You *should* be able to make 6 boxes, 4 2' high x 1' wide x 3.9' long,
                                      2 2' high x 1' wide x 2.9' long

each with an open top lid, rope carrying handles, and sitting flush next
to each other.

This is, of course, a hypothetical example based on assumptions about the
size of your truck.
