Whether Squires, cadets, apprentices or whatever, the answer is the same.
Too many is one more than the Knight/Don/Laurel/? can handle and that
varies from person to person.
I recommend you think of what you will teach your squire, what you expect
them to learn and how much of your time it will take (hint:write this
down, along with a suggested reading list -- you will use it later). Add
time for the personal conversations and guidance that will probably be a
part of your squire's growth, and then consider how many you can fit in
your schedule, and subtract one. Odds are your number will be around -1.
So then start with one and see how it goes. When you are satisfied you
are providing one all he/she needs you can consider adding another.
I have not made it past one.
