One little trick I've used with success that helps avoid deficiencies in
cataloguing is, once I find a book that is useful, read the shelves in the
immediate vicinity.  It's amazing what doesn't make it into the subject
catalogue.  

The library at  my alma mater had a facsimile repro of the Book of Kells, but
the only subject entry for it was "calligraphy."  I'm sure everyone has
similar horror stories.
