No apology needed.
I've often thought that if I had it to do over again, I might take
the approach that I would simply not except _any_ awards. For someone
like me, who places great value on awards, that would be difficult.
Awards can be a hassle, and often are not all they're cracked up to be;
at last Elfsea Defender, being a knight wasn't a wholly wonderful thing.
In your case, Lord Diarmuit, as it is clear that you do not wish this
honor, grateful though you may be for the sentiment behind it (which
I share), may I suggest that you simply write to the BoD and resign it?
It can be done. I offer this suggestion as a possible course to take
you where you seem to want to go.
