You haven't seen a crane? Take a look the next time you see a
cathederal or perhaps city walls under construction. It is what 
they lift building stone with. They put several husky peasants in
a rotating wheel. As they walk back and forth, it pulls a
rope lifting or lowering such things as timbers and stones.
