ANST - Chivalry:modern definition

Well, in the beginning, chivalry was a definite improvement for women:
that they ought to be revered and protected rather than oppressed,
raped, et cetera. On the other hand, the top of a pedestal is a
narrow field of action. Lord Peter Wimsey said words (to Harriet
Vane, natch, near the end of _Gaudy Night_) to the effect of "I
confess it's much more fun to punt than be punted, and 90% of the
spirit of chivalry is having all the fun".
