Galen of Bristol, that oppressive, 12th century Norman, here!

If you're just getting back from Pennsic to the incredible backlog
in your box, you'll be fine to delete this unread.

I chose my persona after seeing _The Lion in Winter_.
If I had it to do again, I might choose a more typically
Norman name, like Robert, Geoffrey, William, Henry,
Richard, or John, and my byname would be a patranymic
rather than a placename. "Geoffrey FitzRobert" just
screams "Norman", doncha think? And there are no
"Sir Geoffrey"'s in Ansteorra. What I _would_ change
(and what I may yet change) is my coat of arms.

My arms are a pretty good example of the heraldic concepts
of balance and simplicity, except that I have a bend between
2 unlike charges. I should have put the bend between 2
axes, instead of between an axe and a compass star. I may
yet make that change. Timing is important though; I still
have a perfectly good surcoat with the old arms on it, and
I've done a number of projects which include my arms,
banners, and so forth. So maybe not.
