ANST - UHMW 1/4"Fiberglass

Woa...WAY too much jargon for me. What is a UHMW and why is 10 feet 
too much?

Also, why would we want it cut to 1 inch? (Itty bitty arrows?) Why 
drill it at all? Why is the 1/4" by 1/2" significant?
