Hi,
There are some additional classes concerning Rapiers and their use and
safety in the SCA that will be taught at Gulf Wars that have not made it
onto the most recent schedule.

Every morning at 9am Don Danulf Donaldson, of the East Kingodm will be
leading footwork drills on the fencing field. This set of drills are
useful for stretching out and building endurance. This is not in armor nor
uses weapons so there should be no problems with Meridiens participating.

Also please check the schedule when you get on site as Don Danulf will also
be teaching a class on How to inspect your fencing armor and weapons BEFORE
you get to the marshal. Besides being an excellent well respected SCA
fencer, Danulf is also a USFA certified armorer. He has good information
and tips to share. Please bring your fencing gear to fully participate in
this class.

It is also likely that Don Giovanni di Fiamma will be teaching his
Realistic Blow Calling (or if that was sharp what it would really do)
class. This is a wonderful, informative (and at times funny) class that
has been taught at several Known World Rapier Academy events. Giovanni is
mundanely an emergency medicine physician with board certifications in
several specialties.

I also believe that Don Tivar Moondragon, Society Marshal of Fence will be
bringing and demonstating his Machine. Those that attended Collegium
Sionnach last year will remember this. This device uses wet rawhide to
simulate skin to demonstrate just how little pressure is needed with a
sharpen rapier to pierce the skin and why the touch convention is fairly
accurate.

If you want to talk about Rapier Combat, we have a collection of fencers
from 6 kingdoms who will be staying at the Thorny Ivy Cabin -look for the
banner. (Gules, a rapier invert Sable intwined with an ivy vine Vert).
The Thorny Ivy is a fellowship of those who support Rapier Combat in the
SCA, and Living History, -all who support this idea are welcome to join us
and wear the sigil of the Thorny Ivy. We will have Thorny Ivy tokens
available on site.

In Service to the Society,

Lady Irene Von Schmetterling -By Way of Ld Angus McDoughall
