I ran test two on Sat May 3.
The arrows were constructed as follows; all shafts were sanded with 100 grit
sand paper around the circumference then one with one 3/8 plywood disc, one
with 2 1/4 for a total of 1/2 plywood disc and one with 5/8 plywood disc all
topped wit a 1 1/4 dowl 1 inch long.
One with a 5/8 plywood disc with a 1 1/4 dowl 1/2 inch long
two with 3/8 plywood disc with a 1 1/4 dowl 1/2 inch long
two with 2, 1/4 plywood discs total 1/2 with a 1 1/4 dowl 1/2 inch long
all were then wraped with straping tape to help holdthe dowl together if the
shaft punched through.
All were then topped with 4 oz leather and 1 inch closed cell fome, and
covered with duck tape.
The plywood discs and the 1 1/4 dowls were epoxied together and to the
fiberglass shaft.
Theis heads can be made with only a hole shaw and some way to cut 1 1/4
dowls close to square
Two arrows were Baldar Blunts on fiberglass shafts.
All arrows were fired at a fighter to test for felt impactat along with two
Baldar Blunts on wood shafts and two Ansteorran War Arrows (AWA) on wood
shafts. None were felt to hit with excessive force. They were then fired
into a sheild held at about 45 degs. to stress the head/shaft conection and
head durabilty, the finle firing was into a sheild held square to the
shooter additional stress testing and to see what kind of bounce back happened.
No arrow showed any sign of failer after the firing. The Baldar Blunts
grabed and spun when they hit the shild while the AWA tended to glance and
slap the sheild with the shaft. The Baldars going thump and the AWA going
thump/slap.
Test three will be at Stepps Warloard. I will have the above ten arrows for
additional testing and 4 or more arrows with uhmw plastic with or in place
of the ply wood/wood head.
