Announcing squires, proteges and apprentices has been going on for
awhile.  Some do it in court, others at their encampment. I have done
both. I prefer to do it in camp with friends.  I always will invite the
crown to witness it if they have the time.  I hate adding to court that
is already way too long.  As for the belts....I have seen this in
Ansteorra:   red---squires   apprentice:  green   protoge:  green
baldric.

One does not have to be an apprentice/squire/protege/student to become a
peer.  A good example is Avatar of Catsprey.  I do not think he is
apprenticed to anyone.  My laurel, Sindra was not an apprentice. 
I am not sure of the knights....if any have been made that were not
squired first.
