Would it have been so hard to not quote the entire mail message being
answered (here trimmed)?

Rather than take messages that we needn't have seen in the first place
and repeat them verbatim to the 200 or so people in at least
half-a-dozen kingdoms who subscribe to this list?

Some mailer software is truly benighted, so I suppose some might not
make it possible or convenient to trim the reply text.  However, I
think most allow it.

If it is necessary to quote text to establish context for a reply,
would people please trim it to the minimum necessary.
