how much does it cost to replace a eye?  probably a lot more (if
possible) than a pair of quality eye shields.  ... if the cost of
decent pair of eye guards is more than a person values their
eyesight .... well that's their call, their decision,  and their
ultimate foolishness.

have seen too many serious eye injuries by people who didn't think
it was an issue until after the fact .... 

along these lines (eye protection), was riding with a group this
weekend and glad i had my guards on  .... got a face full of gravel
off a uncovered truck on the highway (projectiles moving at high
velocity) that was shed by the gargoyles.  picked up a couple facial
nicks and bruises below and above them but the eyes were fine ...
