Mari, for what it's worth, I agree completely, most of the time. Poetry
is
often not fictitious, and is usually better performed when it's
memorized.
Although some poetry is better read -- and I don't mean read aloud. I
find that most sonnets don't perform well at all, memorized or not. I
think
that some poetry is best simply published, rather than performed; that's
much more a reflection on the poetry form than on the poet's skills.
Although I've written and published over 50 sonnets, I almost never
perform sonnets.
