ANST - Stargate, Households, and the SCA

Greetings, Don Modius,

I appreciated your post. It brought to light an issue that I was thinking about today on my way to class.

In our Kingdom, we have well-known dukes who provide martial arts training. They provide a continuity of knowledge that cannot be found anywhere else. Our warriors are respected throughout the known world. Could it be due to the efforts of men like Inman and Sigmund? We aren't continually having to re-invent the wheel due to their knowledge and the knowledge of the others who continue to teach.

We have Laurels such as Mistress Branwyn and Mistress Gunnora who are incredible artisans and teachers. We have others who are acclaimed professionals in their fields. They also share their knowledge freely.

If you were to want to study any other form of martial arts, you would pay for the privilege to learn.
If you attend a university to study Art or History, you pay (and pay, and pay...).
If you wanted to listen to accomplished musicians (like Master Albrecth/Avatar) at a concert, you would pay.

In the SCA, we have a love-hate relationship with leaders. We love them when they are new and wonderful, but if they seem to be *too* powerful (influential, etc.) they become an object of resentment.

Just my thoughts for the day,

Zara Zina
