Well, I work in a small high school and there are a few of our
students who have interesting names. Don't know if these qualify for
"not too out there," but here's a few ideas (& some of the nicknames
I've heard used 'round here):

Asher (Ash)
Killian (Kils - OK, so maybe that's not such a good one)
Jeran (Jer, Jerry)
Jarett (see Jeran) - Reminds me of Jareth from "Labirynth"
Carlan (Carl)
Braden (Brad, Bray)
Chance - this one's a bit risky
Everett ('Rett) - this one, too, unless you're a fan of "Gone with
the Wind"
Matlock (Matt)
Hayden (Hays)
Shane (Shay)
Skye
(these last three I've also seen as girls' names)
This year's vote for most common name is Matthew (Matt).
Out of 150 students, we have 4.

Some of my personal favorites have always been:
Phillip, Michael, Johnathan, Taylor, Stephen
Christopher/Christian, Jordan, Richard
(I know these are kind of ordinary, though)

- Kat >"< (Who just about has to name her first born William 'cause
there's so darn many of them in mine and Barn's families)
