good information ... have chosen to not work with galvanized mail primarily
because i was concerned about exactly the thing you mention - skin acids
dissolving metal and allowing it to be absorbed through the skin (same
reason i am meticulous about exactly what is in the bronze i have melted
for casting projects through the years ... zinc fumes are bad juju).

additional reason i stay away from galvanized wire ... to my eye's it looks
*horrid* when it's new and worse once it starts to wear (like most coated
maile materials). much prefer nicely "wear matted" stainless or bronze ...

not sure about details off the top of my head, but i seem to remember a
similar warning about the black anodised links that were being sold by a
major commercial maile maker ... to their credit once they realized that
they were a potential health hazard they ceased sales of links and finished
maile so coated and offered a exchange program for those who purchased
same in the past ...

careful out there folks ...
