You do not have to apologize for saying "no".

As a mother of one of the children that you have helped to provide a safe 
and happy environment - and a learning environment as well, I thank you for 
what you have done.

As far as learning where the limits to your time and energy are, I think 
you are doing a great job as well.  I usually have more that just a few 
things in the air at once, and realize all too well that *you* must put 
*your* needs first - physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual. 
 Then take care of everybody else.

As a "Mom", I know that if I feel bad, I'm not a very good mother.  As a 
Baroness and a Laurel, I know that if I burn out, I could turn spiteful and 
petty.  You must pace yourself in order to stay in for the long run, and to 
enjoy it along the way.

I did not reply to this privately, as I feel this is an important thing to 
consider for everyone lurking out there.  We all have lives - real, busy 
lives - and we must manage our time effectively and efficiently.  I have 
counseled many people to always take time to step back, take short breaks 
from the group, and come back refreshed.  You will regain your passion for 
what you do if you are having a good time doing it.  If you are miserable, 
it affects everyone around you.

Train deputies and give others the chance to take on a small part of your 
job.  Delegate to others who need a chance to try something new.  Don't 
start them with big jobs.  Give them small, manageable duties, in order to 
lessen your load, and to give them experience and confidence.

Sometimes we have to seek out deputies.  People are too shy to attend the 
meetings.  It takes a lot of chutzpah to walk into a strange group of 
people who speak a different language (practically), wear funny clothes, 
and you don't even know their real names!!!
