I hear the Northern Region has a Gryphon banner to fight under. Some
regions do not (yet). I think the problem is the "group awareness".
Some baronies (and some Dukes) can field enough fighters to form a
significant unit. Some baronies and most shires do not have enough
fighters at a war to make a usable unit; instead, they join up with
other units. This means they do not have that group's insignia, and
thus are subject to friendly fire or just being flat left behind when
the unit moves.

I suggest two things. One: if your group will have enough fighters to
be a working unit, make extra tabards or insignia for others that may
join. Two: Someone create some "Kingdom Unit" banners to fight under,
like a Lion Banner, a Crane Banner, an Iris banner, etc. These kingdom
heraldic symbols are well known, and carry some sentimentality for
Ansteorrans. Who wouldn't want the honor of carrying the Lion Banner?

Other things. Tabards take a lot of cloth and time if you are going to
make something that doesn't get in the way. Baldrics and sashes are
easier, but harder to spot. How about the helmet coverings the
Crusaders used, that became the basis for Mantling? A simple square of
cloth covering the helmet and hanging down a little in back. It could
be held on by a torse, or even duck-taped on. Just a thought from a
herald...
