First find out if it is a display or a judged competition. If you
cannot find out, do not sample. If it is a display, sample; that is
what it is there for. If it is a competition, let the judges go
first, then you may sample.

This also applies to touching or picking up non-food items, as you
would not want to disturb the layout of the display before the
judging. Even so, use good judgment in what you do or do not touch.
No one wants rusty fingerprints on their fine weapons and some items
are too delicate to handle.

This is perhaps obvious, but never walk away with anything from an
A&S display. I remember a panic that occurred once when a fighter
took a very fine weapon to where the tourney was going on. He only
wanted to show his friends how skilled the craftsman was and he
promptly returned the knife, but not before a very agitated artist
noticed it missing.

Ultimately, if you are not sure you can always hunt down the owner and
ask them.
