Not to nitpick, but isn't that "Via con Dios" ("Go with God")?
Adios (a Dios) meaning more of "God be with you" or something?
(I'm sorry, I'm currently nitpicking "Titanic" elsewhere, and it's
making me a little more retentive than normal).

"Addio" is acceptable Italian for "good bye", according to my dictionary.
I assume, simply as a guess, that since it also appears in Romanian as
"Adio" they all derive from a Vulgate phrase based on "a deus" that just
doesn't show up in my Latin dictionaries.

I'm afraid that I just don't know. It can be assumed that, over time,
there might be *some* influence, particularly considering the other *ahem*
Moorish influences in Spanish culture as evidence. Really, unless you
utterly eradicate an indigenous population, invaders are likely going to
be influenced. OTOH, wishing that someone "be with God", or to have God
look out for them, or whatever, would seem to be fairly common.

I wish you luck on your search.
