For those who read Latin--pubes mulieres.  Though Gio is correct--there was
an odd 18th century fashion of crafting and wearing little uh wigs (though
I'm not sure at what occasions or upon what layer of garment they were
worn) that were also called merkins.

I know very few on this list who will understand this reference, but a
merkin is the unofficial badge of the unofficial (highly dubious and never
coveted) Artemisian Not-Quite-Fighting Order of the Iron Lung.
