Greetings Rowan,

	Being a previously shy person myself when I first moved to Northkeep I understand where you are coming from.  My lord had been involved in the area previously so when we moved back into the area he knew many people and I knew about 4.  That was at least some help.  At the first event I attended I did nothing but try to meet people and remember their names.  But I still didn't feel extremely welcome.  Then at my second event I helped in the kitchen all day on Saturday, that was most enlightening and I made several new friends.  That was over three years ago.  Now I have a lot of SCA friends and they are really our best friends as well as an extended family.  
	The Barony has their local populas meetings (that is when we get together and discuss local affairs and events and so on).  It is a great place to meet the 'locals' and we also have an informal get together afterwards so we can all socialize.  The meeting starts at 8:00 p.m. on Monday January 26.   
The meeting usually last about an hour and then we go to a local restaurant to eat (usually pizza) and talk.  At the latest we leave about 11:00 p.m.  But you don't have to stay that long if you have to get up early.  This gives you a chance to meet people in a different setting and get to know everyone a little better before an event.  
	And we do have a local event coming up.  That following weekend their is our local Collegium event, WinterKingdom.  This is an event designed around classes for people; including newcomers.  (Prime opportunity for you!  :)  I know they are planning on having some newcomer classes.  If you will send me your mundane sizes (and your height since, I'm short) I'll see what I can come up with garb-wise.  And as co-head cook I can offer you time in the kitchen if you want to do something during the day besides attend classes.  (The best friendships can be made crying over a pile of onions with six other people.  Let me tell you!)  I can also loan you feast gear and put you in good hands during feast if you wish
