ANST - A Long Introduction

Hello all, I've been meaning to do this sooner, but my house has been plagued
by a nasty bug so I've just been lurking for a while (you may wish I'd stayed
there ::wink::)

My name is Sarah, my SCA name is yet to be decided (new persona for a new
area, you know how it goes), but that's a mouthful so you can call me Sarah
for now. ::smile::

My "family" (explanation coming right up!) and I just moved to Northkeep and
we are very interested in getting involved up to our elbows, and we have lots
of elbows! So, if you're in need of volunteers, drop me a line. We would love
to help out.

I'll tell you a little about my group, my "family". There are 5 of us now,
soon to be 6 (then 7!). I live in a house with 2 other adults and my two
children. Neither the two adults nor the children have much experience with
SCA. I've taken them all to a few events, but having gotten my start in
Kansas, I can't really help them network here.

Here's a list of us. Don't worry, there will not be a test.

Kevin, 21. He's interested in learning to fight. He's smart and fun to talk
to, but don't let him drink whiskey!

Heather is, 23, is the other woman who lives in our house. She's kind of shy
but she's interested in "dressing up" and " the guys who dress up" LOL.
Actually that makes her seem a little shallow, but she's a very nice girl. And
willing to help out where ever needs helping.

Me, Sarah, 22, 2 kids, one on the way, divorced, interested in getting back
into the SCA. I sew garb, except I lost most of my patterns and my garb in a
flood/fire we had in Salina (yep, fire and flood, same day! LOL quite a story.
Ask me sometime, but only if you want an earful) so I'd be very interested in
new pattern sources. Also, pregnant garb... that's a new one for me. Any
ideas? I would also be happy to talk with anyone who might need garb sewn;
it's one of my favorite things to do.

Joshua, 5, is my son. Interested in "fighting" of course! LOL. He can hardly
wait until he's old enough to get beat up on. He is also interested in
"helping" and you can be sure that he'll do his best to help you out if you
let him!

Morgan, 2, is my daughter. She's interested in dirt and rocks and mud pies and
feasts, etc. All in all, pretty easy to keep amused. I've been told that
children are welcome at events in Ansteorra and I'm happy to hear it! I think
the SCA is very enriching for them, not to mention the great value set they
get to learn. (not to mention great stories for the playground and cool stuff
at show- and - tell)

Goth (Gothart, or with an e, I'm not sure. He has it tattooed on his arm in
Norse runes, but I don't read Norse runes! <g>... people usually just call him
Goth), 37, is the # 6 who is coming here in February from Florida. He is a
fighter and is interested in.... fighting! <gasp> I know... 'twas a shock to
you all. Well, I'm sure he's interested in other stuff too, but I've been
specifically charged with getting to know the fighters before he gets here so
I can introduce everyone.

"Baby", - 20 weeks, the baby is due in June (the same week Joshua turns 6 and
Morgan turns 3...don't even let a man walk past me in September!!) the # 7,
widely believed to be a her, but you can never be sure, right? Interested in
kicking and getting the hiccups so far, I'm looking for a period "carrier" for
the baby (I was thinking a big basket with a handle), and would appreciate any
suggestions, personal exp. stories, etc.

Quite a load for one e-mail, eh? Sorry ::smile:: we'll try hard to be worth
it!

I have a couple of questions and then I'll let go of your screen.

1) Seems like a saw a post in which someone from Northkeep offered to let
someone slave in the kitchen at the upcoming Winterkingdom. If that person
could get in touch with me, I can offer a load of helpers. That offer goes to
anyone who needs help, we're a "do something" bunch and will help wherever and
whenever we can.

2) Like a said before, any info on period maternity clothes (any period in
period would be fine for now! I'll only have to wear them till June :) ) I'm
not going to sew much for Kev and Heather until they pick personas, but I'm
sure when they do, I'll be back begging again ::sighs:: I'm such a pain
::wink::

Well, for those of you who got this far... GODS get a life! ::laughs:: no,
really, thank you. I hope we can give and gain much through our experiences in
Ansteorra.

Any questions? Ask away!

Sarah
