(MY APOLOGIES TO ALL FOR SENDING A PRIVATE REPLY VIA THE ANSTEORRA LIST BUT I
COULDN'T GET THROUGH ON HER LISTED EMAIL ADDRESS)

Greetings Aoife/Cait,

My name is Melody and I live in the Barony of the Stargate (Houston). My
husband, Askell, is a chavalric fighter and harp carrier extroidinaire.
Welcome to the SCA!

Your mention of Celtic harp caught my attention. I play a Triplet Premier
38-string (nylon of course) harp, as does the lady who brought me into the
SCA. (She plays a walnut and I play a cherry). I also play several other
instruments (badly, I'm afraid) and have discovered that the SCA is a great
place to bring medieval, renaissance, and traditional (for us that's usually
Celtic) music to life. From informal jam sessions during tournaments to
playing for dancing and court, we are two of several musicians, of varying
abilities and seriousness about their art, that enjoy researching and sharing
their love of music.

As a word for your parents, yes, there are some odd birds in the SCA. Quite
frankly, most of the music groups I've been involved with are full of just as
many odd birds. The best thing is that, like other music groups, the odd
birds in the SCA are odd in a nice, often scholarly, and positive way. I do
hope you get to come to more events. If nothing else, it offers a low-key,
no-pressure way to get to hang around people that are intersted in early music
and that often have wonderful and fascinating instruments.

If you make it to an event with one or two ladies playing very large folk
harps, I'm the redhead playing the cherry and Lady Yseults is the brunette
playing the walnut. We would love to meet you--please come 'jam' with us!

Hope to see you at an event some time.

Lady Melody macGregor
