I had a recipe a few years ago that took various fruits, studded
them with cloves and then dried them in a bowl of various spices.
The dried fruit were then decorated with ribbons and bangles as
Yule decorations and such. Very similar to some of the descriptions
of medieval fruit pomanders but from a modern magazine. The unfinished
pomanders are still sitting in a bowl of spices at home.

However, I would imagine that with fresh fruit, pierced in multiple places,
you would have trouble with mold or the fruit getting mushy with all the
juice.
