I've never heard it being used.  Then again, I Don't Get Out Much.

Corpora reserves to the Board and the College of Arms the power to
formally determine alternate titles.  The CoA Alternate Titles list,
http://www.sca.org/heraldry/titles.html, lists Thegn as an Old English
alternate title for both viscounts and barons.  (Hlaefdige is the
alternate for any woman from Princess down to Lady (!).)
