ANST - Chivalry and Politeness...

Good Morning,
I know that I for one use these terms, as do others, all too often.
I do not claim to be chivalric, but I do try to be polite most of the
time.
The real issue is, what do they mean to each of us? One person's
chivalry is not another's. Then again, Society may define it completely
differently.
When "we" talk about chivalric and/or polite behaviour, what is meant?
Must we always open the door to be chivalrous?
Must we always carry the heavy item to be chivalrous?
Must we always say nice things to be polite?
Is being polite to someone and then turning around and telling
unfavorable stories about them chivalric behaviour?
Or is it only unchivalric when you intentionally spread rumors/stories
(founded or not) in a similar circumstance?
If I sit at home and complain to my wife about So-and-So's behaviour,
but I am polite to them when I talk to them, am I being truly being
polite or just two-faced?
I have my own ideals of politeness and chivarly. They involve, opening
the door for someone when I can, helping carry the heavy item for
anyone, carrying the not-so heavy item for ladies, trying to say nice
things and being civil even when I despise the person. I may not always
succeede in these actions, but I certainly try to when I am able.
In Service to something,
