ANST - awards

Awards are a strange thing. Some people like getting them. Some people
like "giving" them. While others get very upset about the thought of
getting one. All the feelings form love the hate are there wrapped up in a
little insignia.

Why do some people get an award and others who may have done just as much if
not more, don't? The answer is simple, recommendation. Unless it happens to
be what army folks call a "on the spot promotion", to get an award, you have
to be recommended. There is no way the Crown can know every one or what
they do. They rely on the good gentles of the Kingdom to be There eyes and
let them know about people.

One of the easiest things in the world to do is to say something *bad* about
someone. One of the hardest things in the world is to get someone to write
something *good* about some one. There is an official award request form,
they print it in the Blackstar from time to time when they need a filler.
However, a recommendation in almost any medium will do; just give the Crown
two or three weeks lead time. They and others have things to do to get the
award out.

Every one can make an award recommendation (some awards; however, require
the actions of various polling orders). Unfortunately most groups doesn't
have some one keeping track of who has what awards. That's why some people
can go for along time without getting deserved recognition. How many times
have you heard, "Ithought they already had a......"? And that, I feel is the
really sad part.
