Seems to me that King Robert 1 was still excommunicated and Scotland under
edict and interdiction  for the killing of John Comyn by Robert  at Greyfriars
Church in 1306, so technically Scotland was not considered Christian at the
time.  Even in 1324 , the Pope although recognizing Robert the Bruce as the
true King of Scotland, refused to grant absolution.  The Scots preferred to
remain excommunicate.  Thus the Papal Bull carried no weight or legality in
Scotland.
