There is also the option of powering down the device. I've seen other
ballistae that throw GT bolts tipped with tennis balls almost 100 yards,
and the impact from them is no problem. If you're getting dangerous
velocities out of something that uses the tennis balls only, I'd think
you would want to reconsider the draw on it.
And, I'd love to see the thing. Got any pictures?
