Plans for ballistae are already available on the Net. OK, not actual
plans in some cases, but at least enough information that someone can
build a weapon. Go to this URL
www.angelfire.com/tx/adod
and check the links in the "Artillery" section. There are 3 articles
there that show ways of making ballistae. Also some information about
making GT bolts.
For anyone who is thinking about building ramps and other entry devices,
the plans of the Gulf War fort are now available. Go to the URL written
above, and check under the "Maps" section.
I have been talking to people in the Bryn Gwlad area for some time about
throwing some money in the pot to rent a truck or trailer for hauling
the siege train to and from the war. I really want to do that because I
know we're going to need heavy transport to carry the weapons and a
decent basic load.
Now for the parts that I know I'm going to regret later... :-)
I've said in the past and I'll say it again - I want to see an artillery
regiment at the war. I want this kingdom to form such a unit and
actually put coordinated plans for its use into effect. To that end, I
am willing to do the work needed to bring the people and devices
together.
If nobody else steps forward (and I sure hope somebody does because this
could easily get too much for one man), I'm willing to coordinate
transport for the siege devices. I'd need information from people who
are planning on taking siege engines (ramps and everything, not just
weapons) about their space requirements. In order to know how many and
what sizes of transports, I need figures on weight and volume of the
devices being transported.
Communications - if anyone on this list knows a siege engineer who has
or is working on devices for the war, and that engineer does not have
Net access, please work with him to pass messages to and from the rest
of the Net. For those who have Net access, I put together a bulletin
board so people can post ideas about how to do things at the war.
Anyone can post messages there, and that gives us a way to pass
information without overloading this mail list. To reach that bulletin
board, go to this URL:

If the following paragraphs violate any rules, I apologize in advance.
I am going to build at least a couple more ballistae before the war.
And since I've always wanted to be an arms dealer<G>, I'm going to make
this kingdom an offer: I've been working on a surgical tubing ballista
design and it works pretty well. The design has been proven in testing
and field use - 90 yards using golf tube bolts in calm air. It can be
seen at the first URL shown above, under the heading "Bungeelista."
If there is anyone in Ansteorra, group or individual, who wants to have
a ballista but for some reason can't make it themselves, talk to me.
I'll build these things for anyone - price is twice the cost of
materials. That should work out to approximately $120 apiece. I don't
have exact figures on hand right now, but I am going back to the
hardware store and will make up a bill of materials, so by tomorrow I
can have exact numbers available. If anyone wants variations in the
design, I can work those out and adjust the pricing accordingly.
Build siege weapons. Make arrows. Death or at least grievous bodily
harm to Trimaris.
