Greetings to all,

The Barony of Namron in the northern reaches of
Ansteorra held their Rapier Championship tournament this weekend. The
weather was magnificent, the attendance was excellent, and the rapier
fighting was wonderful.

The tournament was a double elimination with pure random selection of
opponents unless a duplication occured in early rounds. There were,
however, a few minor variations.

Each fighter started with two points. A loss resulted in the deduction
of one point from your total. You were out of the fighting if you were
at zero or negative. In addition to the points from losses, you could
gain points by meeting an objective of some kind for each round of
fighting. The first round was that you must boast about something. The
second was to take your opponents arm. The complexity rose with each
succeeding round to a number asymptotically near infinity (do you know
whats wrong with the math in that comparison?). If you achieved the
challenge, then you received a half point bonus to your score.

Double kills were handled in an unusual way as well. The combattants
could agree to accept a half point loss each on a double, but if one
party disagreed then a refight occurred which could result in a whole
point loss for the loser or both fighters if they doubled again.

I did not personally care for the tactical implications that this
brought for double kills in principle, but it did not seem to be an
issue. The challenges, an excellent idea which needs more exploration,
did slow the fighting down to the point that they had to be abandoned in
later rounds to bring conclusion to the tournament.

Lord Ingve of York, a member of House Porto, was the victor of the
tournament and now holds the championship of two baronies of Ansteorra.
Vivat Ingve, my friend.
