I am going to put my 2 cents in on the subject....... I think that sometimes
an award or rank in the SCA leads certain people to "lord it over" others and
they get totally out of control and start believing that those ranks and
awards truly mean they are "better" than the people who have not yet earned
them.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine who no longer does SCA, and her
take on it is that sometimes, you get a person who has no power in the "real
world" who is also probably an underling who has to take all kinds of crap in
their daily lives, and all of the sudden, they have a rank and 'power" in the
SCA and get mightily full of themselves and direct all that frustration
outwards in a negative way onto other people. And, I have heard it put not
quite so nicely as "Overeducated, underemployed people with way too much time
on thier hands being the troublemakers".

I mean, it is NOT limited to the SCA. Look at most school PTA groups, you
always have an officer or member who is a "holier than thou". Same with any
kind of organization. I think it is just human nature that certain people are
going to act out that way.

I have been "gone off at" by somebody who took all this SCA stuff WAY too
seriously and berated me because I was not giving a "noble" the proper
"respect" he deserved once. Hey, it was not at an event just an informal
gathering, no garb, etc... I saw no reason to bow and scrape to his high
muckety-muck when we were all just hanging around. IMHO, when we step through
the "reality door" all those titles and awards vanish and we are just regular
people again.......

Most people I have met in this group have been really nice people. It is the
minority that get the award/title and then get too full of it and act nasty
about it. I have decided that if anybody "pulls rank" with me like you have
described I will calmly tell them "You are obviously very caught up in this
game right now, when you come back out the reality door, we will talk about it
some more" and walk away. Sometimes you just cannot get your point across
because they are too caught up in the game to hear you.....
