Well, there is a piece of the Bayeux Tapestry where the cook is forking up
something that looks suspiciously like a steak.

The word steak appears to derive from the Old Norse, steik.  According to
the quick ref, Old Norse disappears into the various Germanic languages
about mid-14th Century, so based on the surface linguistic evidence, I would
say steaks were eaten in period.

There is also a steak recipe in Maggie Black's The Medieval Cookbook, which
I have casually looked at in passing.  I think I'll take a closer look this
evening.
