Are your green beans long and cylindrical or are they a flat disk?

What most Americans call green beans are the former and are the seed pods of
Phaseolus vulgaris, the New World string bean. To my knowledge, there is no
record of these having been consumed in Europe within the SCA period.

The later is the seed pod of Vicia faba, the fava or broad bean. The edible
seed looks a little like a white lima bean. This is the bean that would be
appropriate for a period feast.

BTW, I have made this identification error while preparing a feast. It was
not authentic, but it was delicious.
