plate (noun) as in the metal form type ... plate, round, square, wire ....  
self works in a lot of plate forms - iron, steel, copper, bronze, silver ... 
but little if any use for "plated" (verb).  

this is the older, really good stuff, not the normal "mexican silver" that's 
usually a high copper alloy.
