it's a slow week in the empire, so thought i'ld throw out a music
recommendation that might be of interest to a fair number ... this one goes out
to all those who love the scot's bagpipes ... who are jaded with the
traditional and want something quite different? if this fits, then i strongly
suggest that you give Mac Umba a try.

so what is Mac Umba?. firstly, as for their name, if you are up on scot's
naming forms, you might think you know. but you're wrong. their name actually
comes from the brasilian religion of "macumba", which is a fusion of christian
effigies with the gods from the yoruba pantheon and utilizes drumming as part
of its ritual. other religions in this line include "candomble" and "umbanda"
in brazil, "santeria" in cuba, and "voudou" in haiti.

so, how is this name relevent to a "bagpipe band"??? what do they sound
like??? let your mind wander a bit and consider what rocking bagpipes, fused
into third world, with some awesome drumming, a few excellent lyrics would
sound like. if you want something quite new and different give the a chance.
also available is their latest "Bruhabaho" (1999).

if this piques your interest, more information is available at:

enjoy ....
