ANST - ATYC is a 3-day event

I would like to make clear that I have the very deepest respect for anyone
who takes on an event of this magnitude, and freely admit that it's not
something I have the fortitude to attempt myself. So perhaps I have less
right than others may to comment so insistently.

However:

I can't help but feel that A&S was slighted from the beginning (note the
original intention to have "simply....an exhibition," and the idea that a
regular competition is something "grander"). Further, getting there in time
to enter the A&S competition would mean taking Thursday AND Friday off for
many people.

Nearly every event in Ansteorra manages to hold ALL lists and competitions
on a single day. I realize this one is bigger and much more of a challenge
to coordinate, but I do feel the solution of holding A&S on Friday was
ill-considered.

I also realize that this discussion is pretty pointless at this late date. I
aired my feelings largely in the hope that future event stewards will look
for other solutions to similar challenges.

This has been a popular topic, as complaints about this event have
reached my ears. "My activity is on Friday, I can't make it that
day!"

(Interestingly, these complaints almost never reach me directly.
Only one person has complained directly to me about this issue;
the rest have been people bringing the complaints of others
to me, or public postings like this one I'm replying to.)

ATYC was always conceived as a 3-day event, starting on Thursday
and going through Sunday. This has been in every event flyer.
I talked about this six months ago at the Coronation of TRM Gunthar
and Sara. _Some_ activities have to be on Friday. I suppose
we could simply cancel whatever can't be fit into Saturday
and Sunday, but that seems quite an inadequate solution to me;
I don't know if it would please anyone else.

As for the A&S, my original thought was to simply have an A&S
exhibition, and let word-fame and rewards come from whomever
wanted to give them. The folks running the A&S had grander
ideas and have put them into play. I don't know if it was a
mistake for me to give my "blessing" to this; I've had several
laurels complain about the scheduling because they can't be
there. Maybe if there was less to miss, it wouldn't be
such a problem.

Likewise, I've gotten complaints from the rapier "community"
about the main rapier list being on Friday. I have _not_
heard complaints from the equestrian folks that their
activity is on Friday.
