One of the most interesting things about playing in the SCA,
especially at the Kingdom level, is dealing with the various idiocies
promulgated by a non-representative Board of Directors whose members
are elected by other members from a small pool (admittedly, a pool
nominated by the general membership), who sit for 3 1/2 years, only
have to wait one year between 3 1/2-year terms, and have no
restrictions on number of terms; and who often have never set foot in
the kingdoms they are supposed to be ombudsmen for.
Here's a proposal that has been kicking around the Society ever since
the Milpitas Meltdown: Let's shorten the terms to two years, make them
sit out a full term-length before they can be re-elected to the board,
and have some kind of term limitation. I rather like Duke Andrew's
proposal as it would apply here: one term on the BoD, one term on the
bench; two terms on the Bod, two terms on the bench; and so on. Thus
someone who has served for three terms on the BoD would have had them
spread over twelve years, but only had a real say for six of those
years; and have to wait six more years before being eligible again.
Discussion?
