Much has been said about "Restrictions on Reigns" and "Ducal Prerogative":

Good neighbors, think on this. This thread started as commentary on possible 
BoD interference on the number of reigns that one person can have. In this 
great Kingdom we have been blessed with some really wonderful fighters. We 
have had but few that have held the station of Sovereign more than twice.... 
Many of out Dukes have withdrawn from the Crown Lists many times. Ponder... 
What if they had not? Would it be a permanent round-and-round of Dukes being 
King? Could not Inman and Jean-Richard, and Kein, and Patrick Michael, and 
Mikael of Monmouthshire, and Sigmund, and Lloyd, and Hector, and Jonathan, 
over the years won Crown after Crown? The talent that this list represents 
is astounding... These good Ansteorran fighters, some of the very best the 
Known World has ever produced, entered and withdrew from the Crown Lists 
over the years many times when they could have won. The reason that they 
have done this, IMO, is to insure that the fighters that won the lists were 
the best. Not just the best fighters but the best all-around person for the 
responsibility and duty of being Crown of the hardest fighting Kingdom in 
the Known World. In the final round of a Crown long, long ago...I witnessed 
Duke Inman and Duke Lloyd yield in the final round to a Knight... This 
Knight went on to become one of our, IMO, best Kings. It was Dinaris the 
Wanderer, he that wore the "Muddy Red Brand" at the Society's 20th Year 
Celebration and the King that Knighted Hector... Hector that became one of 
the very top fighters in the Known World. Be happy, fellow Ansteorrans, that 
your Dukes _do_ use "Ducal Prerogative" to withdraw from the Crown 
Lists...for if they were selfish and did not then we would have lost all 
those excellent folk that have been our Sovereigns for many long years. The 
path to the Chivalry Circle in Ansteorra is, again, IMO, the toughest of any 
Kingdom... Likewise, the road to the Sable Crowns and Lion Thrones of this 
Kingdom is hard fought and very hard won. As well, Ansteorra, be happy that 
your Royal Family is active and constructive in their efforts to enrich this 
Kingdom. Their guidance is needful and a link from our past glory to our 
future glory... Theirs is a story of Renown, carved in Blood, and Tears, and 
the unbelievably hard Toil and Sacrifice our Kings and Queens endure to 
enrich and build a strong and united Kingdom. Good people...our Crown Lists 
are run fair and square. Our Dukes do what they do with most Noble 
intentions. Our Kingdom has been blessed with so many great and Noble folk 
that I stand in awe of what we have accomplished... For we are a Kingdom of 
individuals... A Proud folk that have strong Sovereigns... A People with 
hard won Traditions that we hold high and dare the Known World to match. Our 
Crowns laugh with us...argue with us...listen to us...and grieve with us in 
our times of sorrow. Unique and Singular...THIS is the legacy our forebears 
have given us all. All of us, from the most new-come to the elders of our 
Folk, do stand with Pride and Honor in any place in the Known World and 
state plainly, "My Heart lies with Ansteorra, a land of Lions, and Heros, 
and mighty Kings!" And none may gainsay them in any way.......

For myself, I will serve the Land and the People with all of my Heart, my 
Strength, and to my last breath....
