I read Lady Celeste's article with some dismay. Fanatsy Balls are
remarkably period.

In period, there were many fantastic balls held with...Fantasy Themes!!!
The Tudors were quite big fan's of this past time.

Heck, even Cleopatra held a few fantasy themed parties I read about once.
Being a Laurel, I have the token stack of books, I should dig them out :)

Heros, mythos, all kinds of wonderful things. I have seen portaits from a
ball where a Countessa came as Mermaid. Quite spectacular.

Fantasy is not something from this century, many of our legends, fae,
unicorns, monster etc....are many centuries old.

I betcha if I looked I would find something on this in the Florengium.
:)

We are re-creating history. The C in SCA does not stand for compulsive is
something that I like to remind myself often. In recreating, we often use
things that they did not have, for instance sewing machines, and welders
*L*.

We just held a fantasy ball in Lindenwood last week. Many people did some
fantastic masks, wings and other things, heck Duchess Willow did a wonderful
Willow Tree costume.

What I like to tell newer costumers is this " don't research why you can't
do something, look for why you can"
