Jin Liu Ch'ang here:

This story reminds me of a Christmas holidays disaster I had a few years ago. While driving through Alabama on a very cold (10 degrees) and very windy night, I saw a car quickly approaching my rear. I sped up to get around the car to my right only to discover that it was an Alabama Highway Patrol car that was speeding up behind me when he turned on his lights to pull me for speeding up. Like I said it was very cold and so the officer gave me the ticket with unusual speed and jumped back in his car without looking at the ticket very carefully. If he had, he would have noticed that my copy did not have a word printed on it. I guess he did not push hard enough while writing. I tried to flag him down but he was in a hurry to get somewhere warm. I tried for help at the next rest stop to no avail so I continued on home. I could not do anything more as I did not know exactly what jurisdiction I was in when I got the ticket. About two months later I got a summons for failure to appear. I paid the requested amount which was less than I probably would have paid for the speeding ticket, included the blank ticket and a written explanation and sent it in. I have never heard from the court again so I assume I am not in any trouble.
