The one problem that Wothies did have was that it was a VERY expensive
tournament to organize. The cost of the beautiful medalions made at a cut
rate price by Mistress Athena was enough to choke a cow, and with the other
incidentals needed, the break even cost was $7 to $8 per person and that was
without feast.
In the beginning attendance was about 300 to 350, with the profits being
shared by the Baronies, Shires and Cantons helping to sponsor the event.
However- towards the end , attendenance was only around 200 and money was
being lost by the participating groups. Perhaps with the arrival many new
people to the SCA, interest will be once again sufficient to acheive the old
attendence figure, or perhaps the event could be held once evey two or three
years. I know that event burn-out ran rampent on the persons concerned with
Worhies. It seemed like planning was started for the next years event before
the current event was held.
I for one, would love to help resurrect Worthies. It was a wonderful event
with many wonderful people contributing to pull off one of the most magical
event I have ever attended.
